Trak 9100 Reference and Pwr Supply Fans

Post by fineshot1 »

Any one ever notice that the Reference and Power Supply(same tiny fan in each) fans eventually die a slow death
and stop cold. DigiKey item number 259-1541-ND and they are not hard to replace. We had a couple of them
to replace and have another handful of the Traks in the field which will probably need them soon.
DIY is much cheaper than sending them to Trak to replace them at a high cost.

Oh and i guess i should specify that we have the dual shelf GPS 9100
and the power supplies on the lower shelf have the same tiny fan as
the Reference card on the top shelf left Reference card. The Fan size is
30mm x 30mm x 10mm 5VDC .6W 5.5CFM

Yep, chronic problem. The fans are crap. Cheap Chinese junk.

You are not the only one with this issue.

What was the life span of these fans? We also have Trak 9100's out there, but haven't had any fan issues, yet.

You can get German fans in that same size. IIRC frozencpu.com is where we get them. They also have temperature controlled fans that run faster when needed,

Not sure exactly but i think the 9100's have been in service about 6 years so far.

We have a few single shelf 9100's. I wonder if they use the same fans. We haven't had any die on us but Murphy has been known to stop by.
