I work in a corporate environment where the leaders of IT have decreed that all XP machines will be converted to Windows 7 since support from Microsoft is ending for XP in the beginning of April. For years I have enjoyed the relative stability that XP has provided so I have not paid any attention to how people have adapted to Win 7.
The majority of radios in our fleet are MTS2000 and MCS2000 radios. I also have some MTR2000 base stations out in the field. I am wondering how other people have made the CPS for these radios work in Windows 7. Is it possible? I sure would like to be able to continue to use my desktop for programming and tuning. I have searched a bit thru this forum but most of the responses I have found are not very specific about if they are using compatability mode or not.
I understand that I can keep an XP machine just for programming these radios. I still have one on a shelf for the older DOS based RSS.
What do you know??

Re: The end of support for XP and XP Compatability mode
I use a 32 bit Win7 laptop for programming 1225s and MTRs with a "Plugable" USB to 9 pin serial converter with no problems to report. Old programs do not like 64 bit machines at all, though. I seem to recall that the MCS2000 is a real pain to get to work with any modern computer and we still program them with an XP desktop and a very long serial cable that reaches out the shop door, but I have not tried very hard to install it on the Win7 programming laptop.

- What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

32 bit versions of Windows 7 works fine with older CPS "designed for XP/Vista" provided you install it using the "Windows XP compatibility mode", I have one Thinkpad with Windows 7 32-bit Enterprise edition and run MTS2000/MCS2000 CPS 2.03, XTS3000/Astro Saber and Spectra 5.03 just fine.
64 bit is another story.
