Astro Saber Question

Post by zoulas »

Hello gents, I am not a frequent poster. I have the following problem or potential problem with this Astro Saber. I am getting what appears to be excessive battery drain. What makes this even more unusual, the battery drains within 48 hrs even when the radio is off. I have tried several new batteries and they all behave the same way. While these same batteries last for months on other astro saber radios (in standby (off)). The flashcode on this radio in question is: 599008-4f1e00-2 which translates to:

Q806/G806 IMBE / APCO-25 Digital Operation
H14/G114 Digital ID Display
H101,G101,H169 Conventional Repeater Access (Analog Operation Only)(MDC1200 or Singletone)
H868/W298 Conventional Multikey and Analog Conventional MDC OTAR
G170/H43 Remote Monitor and Radio Trace
H46 One-Touch Operation
H38/G51 Smartzone Operation
H07 Multikey software encryption
Q354 OTACS (Over The Air Channel Steering)
Q353 OTACR (Over The Air Channel Reassignment)
Q352 Soft ID
Q351 MODAT Operation
W947/Q947 APCO Packet Data
Q387 Conventional voting scan
Q173/G173 Smartzone OmniLink Operation
G182 Enhanced Radio Call Protocol

The unit is an AS III UHF

Any ideas what can be causing this, it has been driving me nuts. Other than that the radio works absolutely perfect.

Many Thanks, Aristotle W2ZOU

Failing PA module on the RF board. Seen it happen before.

Parts are NLA from Motorola, so your best bet is to find a parts/donor radio to rob the RF board from. A full service alignment will be needed after the board swap.

Post a want ad in the FOR SALE/WANTED/TRADE forum, you never know... someone might have one on the cheap from a parts radio. I've turned up such things that way before. I needed a replacement display once, someone sent me an entire radio to pull the display out of.
