The default "Squelch Fine Tune" setting is 6
The Squelch Fine Tune can be adjusted in CPS and enables each individual channel to have different squelch levels.
There is also a squelch "Master" setting which is presumably adjusted using the Tuner software.
You can also adjust the squelch level from the front of the radio.
When you adjust the squelch from the front of the radio, are you adjusting the "Master" squelch setting or just the "Fine Tune" setting?
Is the "Fine Tune" and "Master" setting basically the same thing...but you have the ability to vary the "Master" level on each channel?
If the default "Squelch Fine Tune" setting is 6 on EVERY channel, does this mean that the "Master" squelch setting is also 6 on each channel OR does it represent the MASTER SQ LEVEL + 6...if you know what I mean!!!
Thanks

Re: XTL5000 - Squelch Fine Tune vs Squelch Master Setting
This may not be the exact answer your looking for, but I have an O5 or M5 head on my XTL2500 and XTL5000 radios, depending on the model. You can set one of the software programable buttons to be a variable squelch setting. Then you use the channel knob to adjust the squelch. I set the default setting for each channel in the CPS to a 3. This provides a good low level signal to break the squelch and not the tight setting that a 6 gives.g8tzl2004 wrote:The default "Squelch Fine Tune" setting is 6

Re: XTL5000 - Squelch Fine Tune vs Squelch Master Setting
Thanks Jim.
I think I've worked it out!!
"Squelch Fine Tune" just means that you can adjust the "Master" setting on a per channel basis. Its NOT an addition to the "Master" squelch setting.
When you adjust the squelch from the front key, you are just adjusting the "Master" level - but if one channel has been set higher than all the other channels, I presume that the "difference" will be retained ie. if all channel are set at 6 except one which is set at 10. if you lower the SQ from 6 to 3 using the front key, then I think the channel which was originally set at 10 will now be set at 7???
Anyway, I disabled the "Squelch Fine Tune" setting so that all channels just use the same value.
