scanner advice -- in-dash wide band scanner? tx not needed

Post by supernova87a »

Hi all, I know that there are lots of handheld scanners with wide band coverage, and fixed desktop scanners too, but are there any vehicle mount (in-dash) scanners, that basically otherwise look like a car radio on casual glance? The best I could figure out from looking around is to use something like the Yaesu FT-90r, in receive mode only.

Any ideas? Thanks!

THe FT90 is very small head, Hardly a in dash unit. You also only have under 200 channels. Is that enough? Scan isnt all that fast so what kind of action you need to listen to? How about an bearcat 870, full feature. A little larger than a single DIN, smaller than a double DIN. trunking.

The old Bearcat BC-560XLT. Small, cheap, made in several clone forms for other sellers, but only 16 channels. Does lowband, VHF, and UHF, including T-band, but no 800 mHz.

Only about $99 when new, and just about DIN panel size.

I vote for the Bearcat IV. With 8 channels, LED indicator lights, strong sensitivity and an audio amp that can power a small stadium, they don't get any better than this.

Well, ok.....just kidding! But I still use one daily.

I like the Uniden line, myself. If money isn't an object, look at the AORs.

Bearcat 210 all the way. Comes with a nice bracket to mount and easy to use slanted keyboard.
