I am trying to find out what a "TRBO RPTR U1 40W XCVR Service Kit (PMTE4004AS)" is and why it would have been put on a XPR 8300 UHF as a repair ?

The PA was blown and that is the repair kit.

Or the receiver was no good. TX and RX bricks are the same part number.

Thanks for the replies.
Were there any other special upgrades in this repair kit (other then just replacing the PA)that addressed the on going problem with over heating in the 8300's ?

No, not really, but I understand they did somewhat rework the replacement kits somewhat. Regardless of what the documents say, it still looks like a medium power mobile to me, and I would treat it that way, 25 watts continuous, no more.

One reason i was asking if there were any other upgrades with the kit replacement was i see there is a "Main Fan speed regulation switch" on the board now.I thought XPR 8300 models did not come with the option.

8300s shipped with the fan speed controlled by the board. It was always in 'quiet' mode, which provided inadequate airflow most of the time.
The 8400 board ships default at max speed, which we used to have to do to the 8300s by clipping the brown wire on the fan lead of the 8300s.
Flipping the switch on the 8400 to the slower speed just quiets the fan down to make it tolerable if the repeater is in a controlled environment on someone's desk or office.
I still run them max out and put up with the noise, even on the bench. Put a coffee cup on your notepad.

It say's they are variable speed controlled and a fan speed regulation switch position can be moved from Full Speed (F) to Temperature Regulated (N).
So are you saying the switch on my 8300 that has the same with the (F) and (N) is not regulated ?

I'll try to explain this now that i opened up the repeater.
Attached is a invoice of work that was done at Motorola Depot to a XPR 8300 i bought.
I was trying to find out what the part numbers were and what work was done at Motorola.
Now i can see the part number on the pictures i took.
I am also wondering if this repair kit would have upgraded the unit to 32MB.
