TMN6054A used with an Icom IC-745?

Post by wes11b10 »

I was wondering if this is possible. One of my stock HM36 mics gave up the ghost. I have a few TMN6054As laying around doing nothing. I opened one and noticed it has a Shure element. Is it possible to rewire the end with the standard 8-pin connector and use this super cool mic with my 745?

That is a MICOR mic. Details here: http://www.repeater-builder.com/micor/p ... -large.pdf

The ICOM uses a much different mic and has a different input circuit. You will have to add a mic bias and attenuator circuit so you can use the MICOR mic on your ICOM.

And most MICOR mics have a cord that you can not solder to. Easy to change the cord tho.

I thank you for the reply, Will. I sort of figured that it would be more than just swapping out a connector - oh well. Maybe, if I am feeling especially idiotic, I will try to use the guts of the HM-36 together with the Motorola case and Shure element...

OH don't do that...
For the ICOM radio:
Does pin 2 on the mic jack have 8 volts?

Wire a 560 ohm resistor from pin 2, radio's mic plug, to the Micor mic mic hi, the red wire.

The Micor mic's black wire goes to pin 7 in the mic plug.

Add a 10 k resistor from the mic side, red wire, to pin 1 on the mic plug.

The Micor mic's green wire goes to radio mic plug pin 5, white wire to pin 6.

Outstanding! Thanks for that, Will. I just might give it a go.

It only took 2 years of deep concentration but I finally did my TMN6054A MICOR to Icom IC-745 (and IC- 718) mic conversion! It seems to work pretty well. I could not have done this without the assistance of board member Will. I used his above instructions and it worked on the first try. I was a little confused at first (for just under 24 months) about how the red 'mic+' wire tied into the 560 and 10k resistors but it does what it's supposed to do. I'll try to get an audio report tonight if the bands aren't as messy as they were last night.
