GTX 900 Error E06

Post by WB6NVH »

I have a 900 MHz GTX mobile which is a refugee from the flea market. It boots up with Error E06 and I am fairly sure this is because the previous user's shop blanked the board with Lab before releasing the radio. Now then, my plan was to take a code plug from one of my other working GTX's of the identical model number and use my copy of Lab to force that code plug into the radio. However, it appears that my version of Lab is older than the RSS version that made my code plugs, because Lab won't accept the code plug I want to insert into the GTX radio. The purpose of this post is to ask if I am on the right track as far as needing to get an old RSS version 900 MHz GTX mobile code plug so that Lab will accept it, force that into the radio, and then after that use last version RSS to update the code plug to the desired frequencies and so on. Or am I missing another way?

It's been a long time since I messed with GTX radios, but I have seen that error before:

Basically, you are right, it was likely blanked. But, since it was, you *should* be able to use regular RSS to reinitialize the unit via the blank board procedure under the service menu. I say *should* because as I say, it's been a long time.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Yes, I should have tried that, I forgot there was a function for replacing the logic board in RSS, I was thinking that was only in lab because the serial number is in the code plug. That worked fine and the radio is once again operational, and all is well, although I'll probably have to slighly adjust the "soft pots" for the various alignment settings now.

That at least confirms that you can't use a code plug newer than the version of Lab you have, for future reference.

Thanks for the help!
