A B5 Spectra can work Type II Smartnet as is. I don't think it will work SmartZone though.

a B5 will NOT do smartnet.

a B5 will do TYPE II Privacy Plus Trunking.

there is a BIG DIFFERENCE, but there is no difference if you are just monitoring the system....

Straight out of the box, a Bx Spectra will do type 1 and 2 privacy plus; yes.

But, most of the Spectras floating around have been hacked already to do Smartnet and a few are capable of analog Smartzone.

I've got three right here that do all of the above. These options are enabled in the codeplug. You can upgrade a Spectra just like a MTX8000 by using a Cx series codeplug that matches your front faceplate.

Try and use a B5 Spectra to monitor a Smartnet system with patch groups, and it will not work. In a PPII there is no need for the status bits. The radio can not decipher the bits, hence you will hear nothing on the patched groups.
