maybe the closest thing to Fasc

The General forum is where users can discuss any topic regarding Motorola communications equipment - hardware, software, etc. There are also several focused forums on this board, so please take the time to ensure that your questions doesn't fall into one of those categories before posting here!

It's just what the guy says it is. It's DES encryption, multikey capable, and supports OTAR, or Over The Air Rekeying. For Sabers
or Systems Sabers.

No big deal. Nice to have, though.

I seriously doubt that a fasc. would ever get on ebay. IF it did, it probably wouldn't be there too long. Who cares anyway?

A lot of wannabee's who evidently seem to
feel COMSEC hardware is fashionable. You guys
should just enlist and join the ranks of us
who have had more than their share of messing
with KY-57's, KG-84's, DKD's, etc....and then
if you still feel the stuff is enjoyable to
work with - well, the term "masochist" comes
to mind. There are probably lurkers here who
know exactly what I mean.

Most of us with our DD-214's who used to
routinely work with COMSEC have no desire to
bring back memories of the "good old days"
and fail to see the fascination (no pun
intended), of people who seem to feel it's
cool, chic, or 3l33t to brag they have some
CCI device in their possession.

Always amazes me to see Hollywood depict a
"hacker" who routinely breaks into a secure
C4I net and download classified codes or
whatever.....yeah, real believable....we
had nation states (the former Soviet Union)
trying to do this for decades - and writers
would have us believe someone in their home
basement can crack NSA codes ? rrrriiiight..
(does "The Lone Gunmen" come to mind?)......

OPSEC, COMSEC are even more important now,
given active combat evolutions are underway.
It's irresponsible to be discussing this in
a public forum. Use common sense please.

Salem,

I Finally Agree With You!
I for one don't want to re-live the good ol days.

This is most definitely an inappropriate topic for us to be discussing here and now!

Vince

I don't agree that comments Astro_Saber has made as being "irresponsible" when at the same time the Government lists it's "new" algorithms and Key Fill devices publicly. Any web search for BATON, JUNIPER, MAYFLY, CRAYON etc will bring up info on Type 1 Crypto, Key Fill Devices, Steganography etc.

I do think that Astro_Saber should do a little more research on a subject that clearly interests him outside of this forum and maybe learn a little more about how it all works. It IS an interesting subject but probably boring to a tech who loads key's all day and has no real knowledge on what's behind it the hardware.

Batlabs is a public forum and Fascinator and the like play a part in "On Topic" discussions as they relate to Motorola Communications why not leave the moderating to Elroy and Batwing!
