From what I hear - the lowband kit has audio problems (e.g. low band is interfearing with the cable, and is causing noise problems.). Once they are resolved, the low band kit will be avalible.

$600?

You're better off buying another radio and have "individual controls."

Just my opinion....

Ok... I did.

UHF Conventional High Power CDM 1550.

$867 (radio at list price, no discounts) TIMES 2 is $1734, right?

$867 (from above) + $600 for a quickmount is $1467, still good?

Your total savings is a HUGE $267.

If you need the dual control head option THAT bad, buy an MCS, OR buy a second CDM so you can have completely seperate controls.

Reliability factor counts too!

opinions, opinions, opinions.. that's all they are.

No Bargain

After all the work you have to go through to install a dual head kit, especially in a Fire truck, and the cost of a weather proof speaker, weather proof mic, you might as well buy another radio.
I would be suprised if anybody pays list for a CDM, we bought 40 of them and it cost us $501.00 each for a high power UHF-LS, and any additional ones will cost the same for the next 3 years.
Now that the cost of the kit is out, I am recommending that we by the second radio in next years budget, for our 4 new pumpers.

Bear in mind, another radio means another antenna which isn't always feasable depending on the band and the application. Although haveing a seperate radio that will still work regardless of a failure of the other one would also be nice.

One of the radios in our engine has the "El Cheapo Dual Head Kit". A modular phone splitter on the radio mic jack with a mic in the cab and a mic & Speaker outside.

Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"
