Emerg. console for Jeep Wrangler (what to use?)

Post by mancow »

My 1995 Jeep Wrangler factory center console finally died. First the hinge broke then the other day the lock came out.
What I want to do is find a nice dark colored aluminum emergency type console to replace it. I would be installing an A9 spectra head, surface mounting an Icom IC-706 head (about the size of a spectra head), and likely another amater dual band mobile. I figure about 3 slots would be the most I could fit.
Does anyone have any ideas where to get something that would fit a Wrangler. A cup holder would be smooth too. I'm just worried that most police consoles would be way to wide or long.

Any ideas out there or links to manufacturers sites?

i dont have a console to sell ... but i did buy one , off of ebay... only cost 31.00.. it was for a crown vic. a little long for my full size bronco ...... looked to have a place for the laptop in front ... well it did ... i cut it off with a band saw .. and used it to mount a mcx1000 and a spectra with a scaanner ... i had to fab a bracket to bring the console up high enough to access the radios without undue strain .. but really they are not very wide ... and should fit between the seats ... and most have the cup holder option.. and if you can .. get the one with the little arm rest ... works pretty well ..

Some of the metal lock boxes that Quadratech sells (or use to) may work nicely after a little Dremel tool work :). Maybe someday I can do that if the Mrs's lets me in the 99 Wrangler we have...
