Siren speakers for a 2001 Tahoe?

Post by 911radio »

I need to mount a 100 watt, behind the grill siren speaker on my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. Does anyone have any opinions or comments on which one is the best or easiest to mount?

I am looking at the Whelen - http://www.galls.com/shop/viewProductDe ... item=SK102

or the Federal DynaMax - http://www.galls.com/shop/viewProductDe ... item=SK064

I know that I do not want the Galls low profile siren, and I really don't want to pay the extra money for a CPI, even though they are nice.

Thanks!

Use the Dynamax and not the Galls/Code 3 unit.

OK, thanks! So far I have the console and all of it's components installed, all 7 antennas, and 3 warning lights. Only thing left is the speaker. Pics coming soon!

Whelen has a nice dual speaker setup that mounted right under the radiator. Free's up the space behind the grill and still lets you get all the sound out. I believe its part for the SA314 series, I'll have to check the price book.

I have a FS TS-100 with a side throw horn installed in the bumper and it fires out the slot above the license plate. works great. Mine is an 01 S-10 Crewcab 4x4.

A regular style also fits behind the bumper facing straight down.

do you want the speaker to fire down to the ground or out to the front?
My point was that the speaker faces forward to project best and that it was hidden and put less stress on the radiator supports.

If you face any standard type speaker down to the ground, always perform a taper-cut to the horn. It will still beat the hell out of the performance of ANY of the slim-line speakers available.

taper cut? EXPLAIN! PICS?

I don't like compact speakers... pissy sound output sounds weak

OK, here is the deal. The Troy console is installed. I just need to mount my arrowstik control in it but other than that everything is done. I actually just got my FS Dynamax installed yesterday afternoon. I had to rig things to get it mounted but it is a solid install and sounds awesome. I will try to get pics this weekend.

On the older 1999+ tahoe I always just mounted an Atlas D-60 to the frame rail under the bumper. I was mounted on a angle so as the bottom 1/4 of the bell was showing.

On the newer 2001+ I use a dynamax 01 kit ( bail bracket ) in the grill off the center support. I tack a small gamber-johnson "L" bracket to the top corner just to take the vibration out. It has worked so far so good..

Best suggestion..Get a set of Go Rhino push bumpers and mount a BP 100 right in the center..
