What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Post by Pj »

We have some secure saber 1's H43QXN7139CN there were to be reprogrammed. Its been awhile since I owned analog sabers (II's and III's at that).

While I was off, the radio shop came in and said that they cannot load in more than 4 unique PL's into the radio. Is this right? I thought you could use up to 12 pl's (ie, 12 channels). What's the deal?

Ok, I dusted off my Saber software, and with the Saber 1 with V7 RSS, it seems you can only enter up to 4 unique PL's. Is there any way around this?

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

Pj: Doesn't make sense. I re-read my V7 book and it's pretty light on PL info. However, I've several times exceeded 32 unique PL's in V6, or at least I've TRIED to, but the program bounces me back and makes me go back and limit the total to 32. The old Motorola data sheet also says 32 PL codes. If I encountered this problem I'd probably try to run a new program on the radio, with selectable PL, telephone interconnect, and anything else which uses memory blocked out. But maybe you've got a glitched memory section which is allowing only 1/8th of the normal amount of PL codes to be entered; I don't claim to be an expert on that kind of thing.

I know when I owned a Saber 2 and 3, I had no problem. The PD I work for have Secure Saber I's. The radio shop ran into this problem as well. I fired my own RSS up, and created a new codeplug, and it came up with the same thing that the shop did. It will let you fill up all 12 channels with different PL's, but then when you go to exit, is shows that you entered 22 PL's, Max 4. (I did a channel CSQ).

Stumped.

In regard to your question about more than 4 unique PL's being able to be loaded into a Saber 1 here is what I know:

On my RSS when you look at the "View Radio Information" page on the computer it has a Parameter called "Number of PL's". On my particular radio(Saber 1),I had used 9 unique PL's as is indicated by a value of "9 / 24" on the RSS. The 24 indicates that I could have used 15 more unique PL's for a total of 24 max. possible.

On my Saber III and Saber1E it had a value of a maximum of 32 unique programmable PL's.

In my Motorola Saber RSS manual on Page 45 it states that: "If this is an SP RSS package, the total possible number of PL's may actually be less than indicated."

Whatever that applies to.......

Hope this helped & Good Luck!

Ok, I was able to lug my stuff into work last night, and here is what I was able to do, but still limited.

I took a test saber, and with DVP, MDC1200 w/emergency, the PL's go down to 4. Without emergency enabled, it goes up to 8. These are 5D core radios.

At my old job, we had the same things, but with 6D core, and it allowed upto 24 or 32 PL's.

But now here is the strange thing. If I have 4 different pl's, no problem. I can REUSE some of the same pl's for other channels. HOWEVER, if I add an already used PL for a Rx pl, the number jumps to 5, and it won't take (channel 1). IF I use that SAME pl for RX on channel 2, it takes. What's up with that?

For instance, I use 179.9 for tx, no rx on channel 1. I use 179.9 tx on channel 2 (talkaround channel.) For the entire radio, it shows 4/4 pl's used.

Now, I add 179.9 to the RX for channel 1. The RSS will not accept that (5/4 used). If I take 179.9 out of channel 1, and add 179.9 to rx of channel 2 (already tx 179.9), it takes (still shows 4/4).

I have tried RSS 6 and 7.1 (?)
