I need HELP!, I have a high band systems 9000 VRS, I want to use it on my Low Band 9000. I hooked it up to my high band 9000 to try it out it did work it did route the radio traffic to the VRS to the HT like it should But then when the traffic stopped the VRS keeps TX'ing. I would then turn it off so it can reset, but when I try to TX from my HT it would not key the radio up. The VRS I have says it can be used for a spectra radio, according to the web site for the syntor radios it can be used for both the spectra and syntor 9000, the model number of my VRS is T03KEA3006BASP02.Please help me on this issue I really want to use it my LOWBAND radio it gets old carrying a heavy brick of a radio like the MT-500

I assume you do NOT have Securenet on a low band radio (trying to use the VRS and Securenet may cause problems)?

You said in your posting that you want to use it on your low band 9000, but, you also said you hooked it up on your high band 9000???? A VHF high band VRS can NOT work with a VHF high band 9000 radio. If you really hooked it to your low band 9000 (i.e. it was a typo), you will have to make sure the low band 9000 is not interfering with the VRS (make sure the VRS Tx is not holding the 9000 squelch open or vice-versa). Connecting the VRS antenna connector to a dummy load with a very short lead is a good way to neutralize the VRS Tx power then do the same to the 9000 (you may need as much physical separation as you can get between the VRS and 9000). It is possible that the higher power mobile can be holding the VRS squelch open and desensing the front end so no signal can be heard. If it is the problem then a UHF VRS might work better for your application. Are any of your low band frequencies a harmonic of the VRS high band frequency?

Do you know if the VRS Tx is really stuck on, or is there a possibility you hand held radio might have its squelch stuck open and the VRS is not transmitting? If you are close to a low band 9000 Tx it may also be interfering with or desensing your VHF handheld.

Do you know if the VRS receiver is working? You may need to use test instruments inside the VRS housing to know if it is really getting a signal and opening its squelch.

Also check your 9000 green receive light on the control head when the VRS is stuck on. You could have noise that does not match your PL holding the 9000 receiver squelch open. Pull the microphone off the hook or enable the monitor on the control head to check. The VRS can transmit when the 9000 squelch is open.

Make sure you programmed the VRS information correctly. The manual listed below has some programming instructions. If you do not fully understand all the VRS programming options in the RSS either get some help and/or get the VRS manual.

According to the Motorola VRS manual (68-06273T69) you must start a VRS code plug from scratch. Try starting a new low band code plug, first enable the VRS and program its options, then make a few mode entries as a test and try it. If this solves your problem then program the entire code plug from scratch.

I think it is amazing that Motorola ever got the VRS to work at all in the immediate vicinity of a 100 watt transmitter. It is not always easy to get these to work in real life.

Does the VRS have to be programmed? My LOWBAND radio is a non-securenet radio but it does have the DTMF option in it. When the VRS is turned on it shows on the display BASE PORT BOTH when selected. I programmed a ham channel in the high band 9000 (146.520 simplex) so i figure there was enough separion from the VRS not to interfere with the VRS.I will try it on my Lowbander in the morn and i will let you know what happens. by the way I looked inside the VRS to look at the U11 chip, it is the 0106711T02, at batlabs they say it is for the Spectra radio.
If that needs to be programmed how or where do i send it get it done.
