You need the program key to change tx/rx frequencies! And Pl codes! (in the field) & so no-one else can. Its password protected, the default password is 58000 (which is: JT1000) which can be changed in the RSS. Without the Key you can change your sq/bandwith/power (in the field) To enable Quick Call & some other features. You need to look around the RSS

Think I dropped him the above link via email yesterday? Including a .pdf operating manual. (42pages) If you want to get rid of the key, your gonna have to use a hex editor. See the "GOVERNMENT MODE EXISTS! (JT1000)" & read on! hope this helps! have a good New Year! Ed

1 =You must have the programing KEY attached to the JT to program it(unless you have a government version)

2= You can program the Frequency tx/rx and pl,band split(narrow, mid, wide),squelch setting 1-9,power setting high or low.

3= you do not need the RSS to program any of the above! If you change what the side buttons do or the ABC switch ,orange top button you must have the RSS.This should be set to your spec's when you purchase it(if you buy from a dealer or from someone who has the software).

4=this is great radio if you donot want to have to buy ,SOFTWARE,RIB BOX,COMPUTER$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hi there from Canada

The JT1000 can be programmed with-out the diode beinginstalled .( the programming key)
With the Hex editor program, locate
Hex offset 0x70 ( factory set 0x80)
change to 0x00 then save the changes.

P.S. u do not even need to remove the mic to do changes when this mod. is completed.
