There are a lot of websites out there that have the information you're looking for. Try http://www.genave.com/two-tone_paging.htm

raymond345:
The 150ms gap - are you talking about a gap between tone A & B, or the space between pages?
Remember, there isn't supposed to be any gap between the tone A & B in Motorola. There is, however, a minimum space between pages of 0.7 seconds. So says my Mot' Moden/100 manual.

The older QCI had the inter tone gap, of 50 to 150ms, but it somehow seemed to disappear over the years as decoders got much better. Takes me back to the "hummer" days VibraSponder mechanical reeds, like little delicate tuning forks. You used a metal rod, read:test equipment, and placed one end on the reed and other end to your ear and listened to the reed vibrate to verify the circuit was working.
Thus "hummer" or "hum decoder" was used instead of saying Motorola Private Line.
