Kendoo Battery Fit Problems on a SABER

I bought a Saber radio that the seller threw in a new Kendoo Battery (KDNB-4596CD)with. I figured you can't beat that.

Well, when the radio arrived ,the battery came unattached to the Saber. So I attempted to slide the battery onto the Saber to check the radio out. It was just about a workout! Got it engaged a third of the way and then I knew something was going to break if I continued any further. I backed the battery off the slide (had to bump it very hard with the palm of my hand) and examined it.

It clearly was manufactured to different dimensions than the original Motorola. I measured -20 Thousand'ths difference with my calipers. Tried shaving it down with a razor knife but did more harm than good.

This attempt to make it work ended up cracking the top sides of the Kendoo Battery!

I went through an hour or so of frustration fussing with this *%#@ battery not to mention the possibility of damaging my Saber !!!

I have so far used W&W Associates and Motorola Original Saber Batteries and had no problems and will certainly ,for now on, insist on one of the two above.

Anyone else seen this with offbrand battery substitutes?

I recently purchased a Kendo battery for my MTS2000, other than it fitting in the charger a little snug it works great.

I had the same experience with the Kendoo batteries. In addition to being tough to get on and off, they are decidedly not "impact resistant", and crack if dropped three feet from your belt onto the floor.

I have had much better results with the Multiplier batteries both in terms of fit and construction quality.

Reluctently I recently purchased off brand batteries for out MT1000s, HT1000s & a few Sabers from a company called Sabah Oceanic Trading, They are in Malaysia and from what they told me they manufacture some batteries for Motorola. All the batteries fit well and to date have given us outstanding performance, not to metion the price was right.

http://www.batteryzone.com/ with a 14 month warranty! Or: http://jbro.com/index.html "Astro Saber" got a 2700Mah. from Jbro. he says it works fine!
BatteryZone I know about a dozen people who deal with them! no probs! Ed

I have an after market battery that goes on one of my sabers, and let me tell you, I find a BIG difference between the Motorola battery, and the after market. Like you stated, the after market tends to "fit too tight", but the Motorola battery just "glides right on"

I have not had one problem with the Motorola battery...........yet

I just bought 2 Kendoo batteries last month for the SABER and they where fine, I have had great luck with W&W with Saber and MX, but ran into the same problem with the STX battery. You would have to use a sledge hammer to get the battery off if you managed to get it on. They swapped them out with no problem.

if this was the first battery you ever tried fitting to that radio, maybe the radio baseplate was too tight. the tighter it is, the tighter the battery fit is too. i tend to tighten the spanner nuts about hand tight. the motorola torque spec tends to be just a little bit too loose IMO.

Hello Cracked,

After your suggestion I tried it with the baseplate loosened somewhat and then tightened. Also tried it on several other Sabers that I have here. Same thing ...... one tight fit!

I think I could have made it fit but something was going to break in the process.

The Kendoo battery is definately made to different dimensions.(see my note on the measurements with a caliper)

Thanks to everyone on the suggestions and battery supplier recommendations.
