What does this flash key look like and do you have to have FLASH SOFTWARE to do this or do you do this on the latest version with flash key attached? How much does this key cost?

dont waste your time on the flask key, the big "m" charges 60.00 dollars for the unit and all it is. is a db25 to a db25 with a switch in the middle, you can build one for 10 bucks from crack shack.

What radios do you own?: XTS3000/astro spectra/

is a flashkey file for an ht1250 or a ht1250LS reuseable? it is my understanding that the new ht1250ls+ radios are passport capable, but the older ht1250LS radios muse be flashed for upgrade. (passport is a wide area LTR trunking format for statewide ltr useage, to compete with IDEN)
also what other flashkeys are available for the ht1250 series, what addl capabilities will they add?

well, a flash key gives new capabilitys to a radio, your astro saber uses flash keys to give it capabilitys like modat, MDC1200.. stuff like that. basically it is just a way for motorola to make more money instead of selling you a radio with everything enabled, you gotta pay extra for all the software capabilities.

Radioguy31-

Is it possible that we are confusing the Flash Key and the HLN9742A or HLN9742B reflashing adapter here? I was under the impression that they were two very different beasts, with the Flash Key being a dongle with a limited number of useages, and the Reflashing Adapter simply being an adapter for firmware upgrades and such.

If you know how to replicate the HLN9742B relashing adapter, I would love to get the schematic, since I am probably going to have to order one when I get back to work Thursday to do firmware upgrades on a big ol' problem-ridden pile of Professional Series radios.

Thanks!
