The NTN7209A comes with a label stating "CAUTION: Charge only 7.5 V nickel cadmium type rechargeable batteries"

If you use it for NiMH batteries you will ruin the battery sooner or later.

You should buy a proper tri-chem charger or stay with using NiCad batteries.

My NTN7209A does not like nimh batteries. After 5 minutes in the charger the green lite comes on even though the battery is not charged. It works perfectly with nicads though. Good luck. 73'S GARY N4KVE

Some of the un-informed sellers put in 'copycat' ads. They look for an item similar to the one they want to sell and duplicate it. Sometimes sounds like they know what they're talking about. I've seen some of these clowns copy an ad word for word and sometimes use the other guys picture.

Slow charger

Post by Cowthief »

Hello.

The slow, dumb charger will work, but do not make a habit of it.
Some smart chargers actually take into account the charge of the cells themselves, not just total terminal voltage.
The first charge should always a slow charge, around 50% overcharge, to force the cells to an equal charge.
This is why you will see things like cellular telephones that say on first charge leave plugged in 24 hours, 'sony-ericsson t62u'.

Thank You.

I own NTN7209A, small sticker on the bottom said DATE:0032 C2 REV:05.

Sticker below the battery contacts said: Charge only 7.5V NiCD or NiMH rechargeable batteries listed in the manual...

It works for both battery types, but sometimes have problems like is described above - i.e. after ~5 minutes in the charger the green light comes on, but actually the battery hasn't been properly charged.
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.
