Program Uniden With Mot. RIB

Post by John G »

I don't know if anyone cares, but I discovered that you can program most of the older Unidens with a Motorola RIB. I had an AMX501 that got lost and rather than shell out big bucks for another, I decided to see if my non-Mot. RIB would work. It was pretty easy. Uniden uses a single data lead for TX and RX. That goes to bus +, pin 15 or 24. They also have a lead they call "write" which is just a busy lead to tell the radio to go into programming mode. That goes to pin 6, busy. Connect a ground to pin 1 and you are all set. I don't know how many Unidens this covers, but it will do the SPU454, SPS320, SMS8xx/9xx, anything that the AMX501 worked with. Enjoy!

I haven't done a mobile yet, but here is the info I have: Pin 2 on mic. to pin 1 on RIB, pin 4 on mic. to pin 15 or 24 on RIB, pin 5 on mic. to pin 6 on RIB. As I said, I have not yet actually done the mobile. The info I had for the portable had the write and data reversed, so if this doesn't work the first time, try reversing 4, 5 on the mic.

I made something like this years ago for a SMU300 but also had to jumper pin 4 to pin 6 on the computer side.

didn't work with my Uniden SPU51KT portable.

I even tried the jumper on the serial cable, as mentioned above.

I'm using a real /\/\ RIB, as well.

I got the following message:

Code: Select all

Exception: ACK not recieved in timeout period. (RD0) @xmsg VR.CPP 1027
Any other tips?

PS: Does anyone have a scan of the schematics of a "real" Uniden RIB?
