I am trying to read the codeplug from my VHF Maratrac and keep getting a serial bus error (Error 3). Not being a radio tech I'm not sure if this is easily rectified or if it is bad news. Thanks for you help.

Alright Blackbird, well, got to ask the basic questions. What is the speed of the computer you are using to program your maratrac? Next, if it is slow enough (I use a 386) after you open the program, you need to F9, and see what comm port is selected. If it is different from the comm you are using, change it, (either 1 or 2) and save it. Then F10 back to the main menu, and try again. Good luck, let me know how you make out with it.

aRE YOU USING A HOMEMADE PROGRAMMING CABLE???

If so , please check the cable pinout on Batlabs, to make sure you have it right.

I've tried the various suggestions and am now getting an Serial Bus Error #5 - Power Failure. Is this a computer problem or a radio problem?

That error sounds like no A+ power to the RIB. Or it could be a poor or one bad connection to the radio thru the programming cable. Cheep RJ45 connectors are a source of problems, check for corrosion ect.
