What radios do you own?: XTS3000/astro spectra/

i have a wierd problem for those of you familliar with the ht/pro series. i have a group of ht1250ls radios on an ltr system, recently, all the radios that get alot of useage, are now haveing a terrible time accessing the tower, EVEN at the base of the tower. when i get all my ht1250ls radios in the same location, the ones that i dont use much always get in to the tower on the firs or second data pulse, the remaining 3 that get used alot, all will pulse many times without access, sometimes it will take a minute before i get access. these same ht1250ls radios get into conventional repeaters just fine, even with this ltr problem, so i dont think it is the transmitter. some guesses i have, are mabe something is happening with the logic board where it is not sending out "understandable" data pulses that the tower can hear. again, other ht1250ls units that get used everyday, but not much talking work fine getting into the system, the other 3 that do lots of talking on the system, have problems getting into the system now, even at the base of the tower. other users on the system are not complaining of problems. these radios are less than a year old,(i know i know , under warranty just send them in, i did)but i am still wondering what this problem might be.(and wether i should buy the extended warranty
any help would be great! thanks

you must constantly align the radio because the data cycle rate is off.....motorola has always made a terrible LTR radio because they claim 300 cycles of data is the standard when EF johnson wrote the original benchmark LTR format as 600 cycles...The GTX LTR develops the same problem and has to go to the factory for a firmware upgrade...once those radios get a little use, they lose spec and the LTR Data will get a little off and not handshake with the controller properly, I know, I went through hell with the GTX. Motorola refuses to adhere to the standard of true LTR and are trying to re-write the rules by calling what they do "LS" trunking and saying it has the LS quality seal. Too bad most commercial SMR's doing LTR do not use Motorola backbone equipment so the LTR motorola radios never work properly and the customer usually winds up blaming the dealer.

I have also observed some distortion on the transmitter of the data modulation causing the radio to have problems connecting.
Had a lot of these problems with LTR UHF trunking systems arround here. Some systems are more "loose" on the data code modulation. Had to realign one hell of a lot of radios due to system changes, mostly Kenwoodies.
On the HT 750 series you need to check the transmitter's deviation for distortion and/or proper setting of the VCO deviation compensation. Seems the factory does not allways set them properly, and the "Dealer" does not know how or even care.
A fast way is to program a DPL code and look at the transmitter's deviation on an DC coupled scope to make sure the wave form has nice corners and is NOT rounded off. Some times when cloning a radio gets the wrong compensation setting in it.
Set to the proper compensation they work so much better, and usally "hit the tower" on the first key.

hey guys, good news, M sent my radio back and the LTR side works fine, they upgraded the fimware to 5. something and said the data deviation was set to "high" and was re cal'd at "medium", it works great! better than the last 8 months of useage in LTR mode.
just letting you all have the update to my wierd problem. we will see how long this works before it gets out of cal again, i give it 3 months :smile:ha!

Get the extended warranty!!!! We have a security company that refused to get it and they have 200 HT1250LS'whose 2 year warranty expired in December.Sad story. I believe you can get your firmware upgraded out of warranty, but will they work on LTR problems out of warranty? Thanks, FatBoy.
