I'm trying to find a cheap MURS radio for a friend's church. It is only for inside the church, no long range anything.
I'm thinking anything //\\//\\ is going to be way to expensive to be worth it. I found this little gem on RFWIZ. How is the Midland Bantam series for something simple like this
http://www.rfwiz.com/Midland/Portables/70-162B_Data.htm
I'm having a hard time finding anything cheaper that isn't FRS or some POS walkie-talkie toy from CVS.
Is this adequate for a church group?

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

Suggestion!
Back about 10 years ago, HT-90's were used at religious institutions, schools, hotels, hostpitals.... you name it.
Now they can be had for $10. You know they are swell, so why not just get those. And same thing for "Spirit" or "radius P-10" if you are looking for something smaller and lighter. Of course it might be more costly to recrystal those than to just get a new radio off the shelf of your favorite discount retailer.

The HT90 may be a little large for their liking, but a good suggestion George. Personally, i'd cruise eBay and find some cheap VHF SP-10s or Spirits. The batteries and chargers are CHEAP (10$ for a battery, 20 for a charger). The radios themselves can be had for 50-60$. That's a steal when compared to the retail price.

If there are issues with purchasing from a private unregistered entity, good luck finding anything decent/non-******** for a reasonable price. If you guys end up being required to pay retail, i'd go with some Talkabouts, a set of good rechargeable AA NiMh batteries, and a Rayovac rapid charger/conditioner. If it's all local on site communications, they should funtion just fine.
