Hi everyone. Im working on plans on putting together an MCV for local PD's or the SO. ANyone ever done this? Any tip/tricks/comments? I do have one particular question about using a common radio for both the drivers area and the rear command area used while on scene. Lets say I had a XXXXXXXXXXXX motorola mobile radio. If I were to run an eternal, extension-speaker to the rear of the vehicle, and have a female RJ-45 jack back there spliced into with the jack on the radio body... would I be able to unplug the mic from the radio once arriving on the scene, and plugging it into thte jack in the back command portion of the vehicle? Would it work? Would save a LOT of money when this SAR MCV would need lowband, aircraft, VHF, UHF and possibly 800 in it! Only have to buy 1 radio instead of two. Thanks alot, and let me know!

I have ran two mics to one radio before. If you have two 8 ohm speakers wired in parrelel, you will have an impedance of 4 ohms. It should not hurt the radio though, I've never had a problem, besides low volume. I would suggest using a good shielded calble for the mic to reduce RF entering the audio line. You should be able to run two mics on it at the same time with most M radios. You might be able to get a splitter or splice your own cable. That way you don't have to move the mic. I hope it works for you.

Where in California are you located.
I live in Moreno Valley and work out in San Bernadino. You might want to look at our MCV. I have done what you are wanting to do except I has been done in a 98 Crown Vic and we have the capability to do multi band simulcast patch from the vehicle alot faster than commcenter. And for a lot less money.

Yes, that would work, but.....

you will only be able to change channels at one location. If you're going to use a Radius/Max/GM series, look into the Quickmount, which will give dual-heads on one radio. This will also give you dual mics and dual speakers! Building a MCV vehicle is not going to be an inexpensive feat. If they're worried about saving the $60 for a microphone, they're gonna be in for a BIG surprise once they find out what really needs to be in these vehicles. The radios themselves are only a small portion of the $$$
