series fed vs. shunt fed mobile antenna, tech question

Post by BO-105 CBS-5 »

Looking at Comtelco website, at the NMO mount low band antennas, I see that they are available in series or shunt fed design.

In what circumstances would the different designs be used?

I am mounting a base loaded low band antenna on a well grounded fender NMO mount ( "L" bracket .)

Any insights and suggestions for best performance would be greatly appreciated.

Use the shunt fed, you have a limited ground plane in 1 direction. Shunt tipically needs less ground plane to achieve the lower VSWR
