2003 Chevy Tahoe Special service Problem

Post by FFParamedic571 »

This one has everyone I know baffled.. We are finishing the install on a 2003 Tahoe. It is the special service with the option for the 30 amp Battery and ignition. The problem is that the 40 amp buss fuse was taped to the harness and there is no B+ to or from the relay box behind the glove box. Myself and 3 other techs and the owner of the shop spent the afternoon looking high and low..taking apart the dash and underhood fuse box to no avail. We tried the dealer who has the state fleet bid who supplied the truck.. They had no clue. No reply from the contact at Chevy tech support .

Anyone have experience with this yet?

Meanwhile back at the assembly plant....

....Hey look what I found on the ground! An extra cable! Lets put it in this Malibu! That will baffle the owner!
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

I assume you are looking to hook up to a B+ constant to the panel that is missing,,,,This is what I gathered from your post....Just as an observation, and this has been highly debated...The time you spent looking for the cable, you could have ran your own fused/relayed 4ga. power cable and have been done with it....Just as GM may have left out what you were looking for what would make you think that it was reliable...Just a thought..

The truck is 98% finished. We are using the factroy drop to run some radio ignitions and low amp draw items. It's not worth the time to tear back into a finished job to add all that for a few items

I couldn't find a switched B+ accy in my 2003 Tahoe either so, I put in a relay that is tagged to the fused side of the radio fuse in the passenger compartment fuse panel. Ignition on: Relay energized and it connects my unswitched B+ run that comes direct from the battery to the "ignition sense" fuse bus that I have all the ignition sense leads for my equipment going to.

I'm more comfortable with this arrangement than using a "stock" switched accy tag anyway because this way, if I flip the breaker at the battery on my unswitched B+, it kills _ALL_ B+ to my equipment and not just the unswitched.

ok, Mystery solved... There is an unmarked fuse in the underhood fuse block that has a plastic blank plug that fills the slot. Of course noone at Chevy knew that...
