MTS 2000 cloning

need to know if you buy a new mts 2000 with the proper software options already installed can you take another identical mts 2000 and clone.it will the system adminstrator know both radios are on[smartnet]system.i belong to a dept that thinks only officers need radios and i am the one that has to put my butt on the line and go in a burning building but not be able to communicate when it turns bad.also what would happen at system adin when both radios were transmitting.i am not sure how the id numbers are set up on these radios.i have access to radios so i could clone one are i am out of luck,thanks for any help
You will not be able to clone the radio without a system key, identical flashcode or not.
If you do manage to have the unit cloned by unauthorized means, most SmartNet systems have no built in way of knowing the same ID resides in more than 1 radio. I've seen rental trunked systems where ALL the radios have the same ID! There is software available, but almost nobody has it. Unless someone happens to catch it on a SIP terminal or something similar, it may go un-noticed.
Of course, if your dispatch center uses "Aliasing", your radio would show the same alias as the one you cloned it from, in which case it would be caught almost immediately.
SmartZone systems are different, and the same ID in two or more radios will cause noticeable affiliation problems which can be traced to the duplicate ID.
From the sounds of it, you are willing to obtain the radio on your own, at your own cost. Usually the main reason radios are limited to supervisors or officers is the cost of equipping everyone is prohibitive. Since money may not a factor in this case, the system admins may be more than happy to add your personal radio to the system. They should at the very least be willing to give you your normal Operational channels, and leave out the supervisor or officer channels. I guess it'll all depend on what sort of politics go on in your departments.
