Yes, the Mocom70 can make a great backup (or even primary) repeater.
First things first: get a manual. Hopefully Ma'Motorola still has them for sale.
Also, I found out something about this radio you should know.
According to the Data Radio Database (http://www.rocler.qc.ca/burt/moc70vhf.html):
If you feed the audio at the mic input, it will be pre-emph'ed to 12db/octave, rather then 6db/octave. So, you'll have to work around this, by de-emph'ing the audio before the mic input by 6db/octave. This isn't very hard to do, an ARRL book should tell you the circuit and formula.
Have fun!

I noticed no one had really posted much other help on duplexing the Mocom70, so I searched my head for every last thing I could think of to help.
The Mocom70 uses the Micor Control Head. SO, if you find a control head for a Mitrek or Micor it will work on the Mocom70.
I suggest you could read some of the pages at http://www.repeater-builder.com/rbtip/ on the Micor and Mitrek to get a general feel of what to do. The Mocom70 is probably different in some ways from the Micor and Mitrek, but they were all made around the same time by the same people (Motorola.)
This is a lot better then no info.

Hello.
The Mocom 70 CompaStation, CompaPro, is the repeater,.
The Mocom 70 can use Motrac, or system 70 control heads, the radio cable is Motrac style, not Micor.
The Moto' RanchPhone is the mocom 70 in mobile full duplex.
The Moto' Pulsar II IMTS 'Phone is based on the Mocom 70.
Manuals can be had, try the comm center El Paso, TX.
Thank You.

I will dig both of mine out of storage in the next couple of days, when I get a chance. I've got some time off work. Anyone up for helping me with instructions on how to duplex it? If so, I'll make a web page with instructions and pics for anyone else who wants to toakke on this project.
Anyone have a manual? Anyone know the pin-out diagram for the control head? My #'s on the wires are hard to see.

Check out http://www.batlabs.com/mocom.html . Okay, maybe don't. It only has the mic pinout.On 2002-01-17 00:29, EC-7 wrote:
