Siren/speaker compatibility

Does anyone have any experience in combining a FedSig Dynamax 100W speaker with a Whelen 295 siren box? How is it? Any recommendations, words of caution? Thanks! ...whooptee whoop...

There won't be a problem unless the siren goes bad and you tell Whelen that you used a Dynamax. Whelen won't honor their warranty if "mix matched" components are used. I guess 11 Ohms in Connecticut is different than 11 Ohms in the rest of the nation.

If you can get a TS100 or other speaker in there, do it! If I had a five dollar bill for every defective Dynamax that I sent back in the last year, I could have bought a new PA300!

Jim, I had spoken to a rep from Federal. The supposed to be changing the voice coil on the dynamax to cover a broader frequency sprectrum of audio. I guess the low end was not low enough causing that " tinny" sound. That they believe was causing alot of failures.

On another note we had about 2 dozen Impala Cast Com-pac speakers come back with a short. When they were asembled they were shorting the leads on the casing.

Bring back the old Atlas D-60's!!

Just like the Gall's low slim-line speaker. When you buy one of these, they should just give you a spare with your purchase.

We have not had good luck with any of the Gall's "house brand" speakers--they last about 15 minutes at 100watts. Guess they might be OK for an old 58 watt box, if any are still around.

Gall's has just about substandard everything....

Their strobe supplies are cheap and burn out quickly. Had one start a fire in a car at an accident scene last summer. 60 watt pack running 2 strobe heads. Go figure.

The only thing I will order from Gall's is replacement lenses for my lights. That's it.

I have a dynamax in my truck, and honestly, as little as I use it - No complaints.

The biggest thing is making sure that you are using the right speaker for the right siren unit - e.g. make sure they support the power and impedence that is being sent to it from the controler.

I would call Whelen themselves, and ask them what units have been tested with the controler, and see if they have done testing with other manufactures. Additionally, I would ask Whelen about their warrenty to see if what Jim says is correct. I think of it as you have a sony reciever, how can they not expect you to use OTHER speakers?

I personally use a Systems 9K siren in my truck, and I have no problems with the dynamax. Works great - very loud speaker, considering I think the S9000 box only puts out arund 80 watts... ( I think )

all of whelen speakers use Atlas brand Drivers,

if you go with a speaker that uses a Atlas driver you should be ok.

cause i know CPI brand stuff gets hooked up to whelen sirens with no warranty problems

The SA314, X-Ecutor, and a few others do not use Atlas. They use Saming. I think the Saming drivers have had much less in the way of failures.

Deafening SUCCESS! Hooked it up to both dynamax and a CPI - sounds great, even for prolonged responses...
I did speak to a FedSig tech that noted that the dynamax cannot really handle much less than 700Hz due to the vibrations...so I checked with Whelen and their standard tones go as low as 800... whoop whoop!

The new 295 series is all 800-1600? Yelp, Wail, Piercer all are the same range, unlike the older 227 series (which I love) and goes deeper in range. Apparently a study was done and those were the most effect frequencies....

...Then again with all the sound proofing done to cars these days, your lucky to hear or see a firetruck with dual Q's on them.

That's why responding units have to be as obnoxiously lit and sound up as possible

I tried a 400Watt setup before for shiznit and giggles...it was a blast...

Next to the daisychained dual siren tones, I preferred to have two 200W systems on seperate controllers - more fun that way!

Best siren I have found - SVP's SA441 - Magnum. Two complete sirens in one - two tones at once, and LOUD AS ____!!!!
Have one in our new Ambulance, and am going to replace the other sirens I have with this one as needed!
