Accesspoint going away!

Has anybody else noticed accesspoint is going away? The new site will only allow authorized moto dealers in, so no more direct parts searches or purchasing, what's the small guy supposed to do?

I tend to agree with Astro Saber but it appears that Motoelph just joined so he might have not had a chance to see the previous posts relating to this.

On a related topic.....

I placed an online order with Accesspoint the other day and mentioned that I would like to see that non-dealer sales continue to individuals(Hams etc.)even with the closing of accesspoint. To make a long story short...I found my order was never processed. I called several days later and was helped by a very courteous Motorla Parts Sales Person and she said my original order never showed on her computer.

She proceded to take my order immediately and the parts arrived at my doorstep a couple of days later. I was never asked any thing concerning me being a "dealer."

Also the flyer explaining the new Motorola Online that accompanied my parts states that: The new "Buying Center" will show "your" pricing. Sounds like your pricing level could vary according to your account.

It remains to be seen how the new Motorola Online will operate but for now the over the phone order I placed was much easier and It went through!

I welcome the new Motorola Online as hopefully it can't be worse that what I experienced with Accesspoint. An order disappearing into thin air!! Not to mention my online shopping basket being emptied after typing in a dozen or so parts! And then someone elses parts being placed in my online shopping cart.

Too many glitches for me!

To get a "customer id", you need to order $1000 worth of parts. For hams and such, thats not going to happen. At least on accesspoint i can seach for part numbers and get prices, etc.. Now i will have to call parts id for everything!

Yes it is about money. Unfortunately.
But the reality is that a major manufacturer can not deal with the "smaller" customers. They have a vast service and parts dealer network to supply these smaller customers.
You don't see Ford nor GM selling parts by mail order do you?
They have a network of trained dealers that are in place to assist customers with their parts purchases. If you don't like a particular dealer, there is generally another one near by (in our area there are 3).
A dealer often has parts in stock and can even provide used parts at a considerable discount.
Like I say, unfortunately it is just too costly for large companies to sell small quantities (less than $1000), but from what I have seen, they do have a good support network in place to service those customers.

The problem that I have with one dealer so far is trust.

If I call up on the phone and ask for something, I expect to get a reasonable price for the part, not an extreme markup that some random end user who doesn't know s*it about what he's buying. Well, i can understandy why I need a $200 charger for a $1000 radio...

I had this particular dealer (without dealing with them much in the past) quote me $200 for a rapid Jedi Carger. I looked up the cost on Accesspoint when I was on the phone, and discovered it was $94.00. So I confronted him and said look, I don't mind you making money on it, but I know your cost is around $94. He ended up selling me the part with a profit of like $15 or something like that. I had to use a PO from a Town to purchase it, so I couldn't goto M for the part itself. I don't have a problem with people making a profit on things, but make sure you know who your selling to. This same person got $80 for a $10 part, and another $50ish for laber to replace the ABC switch on a HT1000. (it might have been less or more on accesspoint, I don't know what the part number was, but noticed the astronomical markup.)

Like I said, I can't knock anyone trying to make a buck, but some places have to learn that sometimes they are dealing with the people who know what they are paying for, not an end user who expects to pay an arm and a leg for something.

We can bang our heads on the wall all we want. bottom line, Accesspoint will be gone 2 weeks! (maybe somebody will slip um a virus)!
