This should be an interesting subject and I'm notsure if anyone else has done this yet. I have a 125 car fleet with MDT's operating a 4800 baud modem tx'd over an open carrier 800 Mhz conventional channel. What would happen if I activated the MDC1200 feature of the maxtrac with the respective car no. on post PTT. My system admin. doesn't have the slightest idea what MDC1200 is, and is unaware that a maxtrac can do such functions. My goal is to know what car is transmitting at the time of sending packets by tying a decoder to the line output of the MSF5K. My only thought if I do this would be beacuse of the high rate of 4800 transmissions, the cars 1200 ID would get "lost" in the shuffle. Anyone have any comments?
Thanks.

One possibility if you have another "free" channel is do to mode steering. You can set MDC1200 to ID on a channel seperate from what you just talked on.

By Free I mean licensed, and not in use, or see's very little use of course... not everyone wants to listen to MDC all day, even with the DOS.

That might be better than the possibility of interfearing with your data network. I have no idea what adding MDC to that channel would do.
