Automotive lightbulb question.....3157/3057 etc

Post by Pj »

Does anyone know the breakdown of automotive light bulbs?

For instance, my truck uses 3057 bulbs, but I find more 3157's out there. Will both work? Same with the 2057/2157 etc etc. What are the differences?

I am also looking at replacing a couple with LED versions and you guessed it...I can only find a 3157 LED but not a 3057.

Almost as bad the Motorola part numbering scheme..

3057 is a dual filiment bulb with the twist-lock bayonet base.

3157 is a dual filiment bulb with the recangular plastic push-in base. Same bulb, different base.

I think the 2057 and 2157 are amlost identical to the above but I'm not sure.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"
