It's spelled TANAPA, whatever it means.

Near as I can figure, Tanapa can mean "board" or "module". I've mainly seen it with regards to board replacements in the Waris series HT & CDM radios. Have also seen the Jedi boards referred to as Tanapas. NO idea where it comes from.

tanapa
this is a term used by the factory
wavetar is correct - it's kinda like a factory part / order number when different modules are used to make a single unit. i remember all the various pieces of the maxtrac mobiles all having TANAPA's... and some even had TANAPA's on the serial # tag too.
i asked a senior guy at the plant once what this meant and he said... heck, i dunno... "IT'S A TANAPA NUMBER"
lol

With all of the manufacturing jobs moving overseas, I guess I just figured that Waris was M-speak for where the radio is made. (i.e. Juarez, Mexico) I just figured they changed the spelling, so as to confuse those patriotic organizations, such as police and fire, and not make it obvious that they were manufactured someplace else. Maybe there is a Tanapa, Mexico, as well?

an old motorola friend of mine (employed back in the 60's 70's before starting his own company) would always tell me how the goofy trade "names" used by motorola were developed. In the old days most of the fancy terms likeVIBRA-SPONDER were done by employee suggestions and lottery as new products were released.
Still, he doesn't know what TANAPA is either!

I heard about the XTS years before it was commercially available from one of the Motorola trunking course instructors. It's simply 'STX' backwards. They used that because it was supposed to be the next big 'Public Safety' radio, as the STX was in it's day. Not very imaginative, but apparently true.Dale Earnhardt wrote:yeah, makes you wonder how those guys at Motorola come up with these name, like XTS, which the heck did they get that lol. at least they didnt call it PMS lol

HI:
[ Tanapa ] is a Japenese term [ But a Motorlola Acronym ]
meaning " Kit " or " Partial Assembly "
What happens during the manufacturing process, the
" Tanapa " is assigned to items like a
" Frame " or " Partial " item number.
As it goes through the " Build " process, it will finally
become a Radio, ( or completed accessory ) and thus a
Model / Serial Number ( or Part Number ) will be assigned
when completed.
Hence, one will see Tanapa on all kinds of
Motoroa items ( Boards , Completed Radios, Frames,
Kits, Labels, etc.
Hopefully that will explain where that evolved from.
Probably some young corperate CEO came up with the
idea without being aware, if you have a Completed Radio
or Part with Tanapa on it, perhaps it could be viewed
as incomplete ?
I was going to express a opinion on a final product, but
changed my mind........

Definite Star Wars nuts. The GP300/P110 were referred to as the 'Yoda' family. Oddly enough, the HT10/P10/P50 was referred to as the 'Gremlin' family.

The GP300/P110 don't come to mind as something I'd classify as a Yoda radio... but that might just be me.

TAPANA and spurs.
Hello.
No, I have taken to the building of electric spurs.
I am not sure the assembly is complete, can I get a second opinion.

TANAPA !!!!!!
What it means is to designate a kit as opposed to
a single part. Example : HLB3050A is tanapa for a pa board
for a lo band maxtrac 42-50 mhz. Schematic in the manual and actual board number is HLB4107A. The difference is that the tanapa number includes hardware kit. (special mounting screws, washers, maybe capsule of heat grease, clips, Etc. How exactly it fits a complete radio I am not exactly sure except to assume a radio that ships complete with
antenna and battery, and accessories has a tanapa number and
a chassis only would not.
The info about the pa decks though came right from /\/\. Phrawg

HI:
And to add:
Motorola ( since about 1999 ) has introduced
" New Blood " to their way of thinking ( However
I feel its a bit infected ) however, the days of buying
" Small Parts " as individule items will soon be a thing
of the past.
No longer will one be able to buy parts for a Mic
Plug, Mic jack, External WARIS Item, etc.
Just try and purchase a Mic Plug ( in pieces ) for
a EX500, you will see what I mean,
Sorta like the Thumb Screw on the HT750/1250/1550 series
Mic Plug.
It almost took a " ACT OF GOD " to make it availible, and
I had to write ( More than once ) a letter explaing the
reason why I did not want to spend 100.00 on a replacement
mic just because a thumb screw got lost.
Better stock up on your small parts supplies, or be prepared
to have your wallet sized down.
