GP300 recase
Is this something I can do myself or should this be left up to a Moto dealer? I bought a replacement case online, but am not sure if I need any seals, gaskets, or other consumables. I'm fairly handy with tools, but I don't want to get in over my head and ruin the radio. Thanks.

Re: GP300 recase
I did a GP 300 recase about 10 years ago, & it was real easy, considering I'm not a radio tech. Since I was taking it apart, I changed all the knobs too. Total cost back then was about $20. GARY N4KVE

Agree with Gary, amongst the easiest BUT the re-forb kit is NLA and some of the parts I ordered to accomplish this in piece-meal were also NLA about 1 -1/2 years back. From memory it was about 14 line items to duplicate what comes in the re-forb kits. I've seen Chinese knockoff housings on EBay but I think they were bare housings.

Re: GP300 recase
As best I can remember here is the sequence and procedure:
1. Remove the battery
2. Pull off the two top knobs.
3. Remove the antenna
At this point you can GENTLY remove the metal chassis by prying it up at the bottom of the old case.
As soon as the metal chassis begins to lift out, it will become easier and easier to remove the chassis.
The speaker is attached to the chassis with a multi-pin connector. Pull the connector off the chassis
and it will be completely free. There should be a rubber gasket that you can reuse; it's a tight fit and
requires some jiggling to get set up in the correct track.
Be careful if you have to change/replace the top escutcheon on the case, because the escutcheon is also
used to retain the LED indicator plastic. If you pull the escutcheon off the LED plastic it will tend to fall out,
so look for it and don't lose it.
I can't remember the procedure for replacing or moving the speaker but IIRC it has a retainer ring that pops
out.
If you need a new 12-channel escutcheon I have a few and I'll send you one if you need it.
