Moden 36 encoder set up

Hello,
I have a moden 36 encoder, for tone group 2 upper. Does any one know if this will do any of the quick call II tones?

Also can someone give me insight on how to wire this to a motorola radious m214 radio. I have found reference on this sight to one of the 5 pins in the rear being an emergency input and another as an emergency out put. I am guessing the encoder gets wired to the ground and the emergency input, but that is a complete guess. If any one has info, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes, the Moden tones are QC-II tones. It is a QC-II encoder that will do 30 different individual two-tone codes plus 6 group call codes.

Check Ebay for the manual. It contains all the tone and hookup info you will need. There are almost always a few of them up there. At the moment, there are two Buy It Now auctions for them, each around $15 including shipping.

I can tell you that Emergency In and Out are not needed. Most likely just PTT, PL hook, ground, and flat audio will do the trick.

I understood your question a bit differently. Yes, it will do QCII, but not "all" tones as you mentioned. The Moden 36 was limited to a partial group of tones (Motorola Group 2 in your case). A chipset determined which tones were available in your specific unit. If you are using tones from Motorola Group 4 for example, you'll need a different Moden 36 encoder or change the chip for Group 4 tones. Good luck finding those at this point, as the Moden line stopped being produced in the 1980s. There are still some gurus out there (on here maybe) that can burn you an eeprom to make the change. I've had the various models of Moden encoders in use for years for the fire service and they're great. I just want to make sure you're aware of their limitations before you spend any time/money.
