automated message with quick call

Post by topcop1833 »

so not the typical application...

Our agency dispatches for a helicopter service. This is a part time mission, the primary focus is a warning point for the state. From time to time, and almost always on midnight shift, there is only one person working in the center. When a medevac mission pops up, our current work flow is the following:

call received by landline
pt info received
lz lat/long verified
place the caller on hold
call the hanger by land line and advise them of a pending mission
verify they can take the mission
go back to the original call and advise if the helo will take the mission
communicate via LMR with the aircraft once its in the air for the remainder of the mission

We do not take calls for hospital transfers, only what is know as on scene pickups (traffic crashes, stokes rescue, etc). Our current turn out time can be as much as 10 minutes depending on time of day, if the hanger doors are open, aircraft is out on the skid. The single longest part is the spin up of the navigation equipment.

I'm trying to get the turn out time to a minimum, and I was thinking of using some sort of quick call tones, and an automated message. As soon as one of our watch officers identifies the caller is requesting a helo, they click the pager button on the gold elite, it sends the tones, followed by and alert tone and an automated message stating there is a pending call. If the pilot/medics know they can fly, they start pulling the aircraft out and get ready. Maybe their checklist is done by the time the watch officer is done with receiving the mission and they can communicate over the LMR.

long story to ask this question. Is the gold elite capable of playing a qq tone, then an alert tone, then a voice message, with just one click?

You could do this like the old tone only pagers. If the pager beeps, you have a call. No need to say anything.

What radios do you own?: Too many for the time I have.

Or the hangar gets a base on the LMR channel, which can be paged out. That way, hangar & helo can talk to you & each other. I don't know about having an automated voice message off the gold elite, but certainly a paging button with tones for the hangar.

To answer the question - a Gold Elite does not have the capability to xmit stored voice messages after sending paging tones.

I'm all for using radios, but couldn't you devise a code and text it to the pilots cell phone?

example - 1025 = pending mission

then they could start preflight and all that goes with it.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
