MCS2000 Codeplug Too New / Too Old, Help

Post by spectrumguru »

I have a MCS2000 VHF (M01KHN9PWSAN If it matters) that works without problem. But when I try to read the device using MCS2000 CPS R02.03.00 I get several error messages:

"Field "Transmit DPL Code" in General in Conventional Personality has an invalid value. Set to default value (023) and unpack anyway?"
I click on YES, and then get:

"Field "TA DPL Code" in Direct/Talkaround in Conventional Personality has an invalid value. Set to default value (023) and unpack anyway?"
Fine, I again click on YES and get:

"The codeplug you are reading supports the Smart Messaging feature. This feature is not supported by the Windows CPS. Please use the latest DOS RSS to read and modify this codeplug"
Clicking OK brings me to:

"Unable to unpack the block model definition"
I click OK again and lastly get:

"PassII- Unable to transfer block model definition from CpDb to Db Unpack failed"

Fine, I then try to read the radio codeplug data using MCS2000 RSS R05.04.00 and get the following error message:
"Codeplug Too New For This Application"

At this point, I'm at a loss. If anyone has any suggestions on how I might be able to read / modify the codeplug, I would very much appreciate it.

TIA
Will

"This feature is not supported by the Windows CPS. Please use the latest DOS RSS to read and modify this codeplug""

That says the radio needs the RSS to program it and RSS only runs in DOS, not a DOS window.

Hello Will and thanks for the reply. That much I understand, and I am running my version of RSS in pure DOS, not a DOS window. In the past, I've used my MCS2000 RSS and MCS2000 CPS to program several radios, so I know the programing software works. The issue I believe, is with the codeplug.

Is that a domestic model, or one form another market area? I had an MPT1327 MTS2000 and it would act like what you are experiencing if I tried to use the Jedi RSS/CPS instead of the Wookie RSS.

Jim, I have no reason to believe that the radio is anything other than a domestic model.

Perhaps it needs to be read and programed with a later version of the MCS RSS, R05.07.00 or R05.08.00.

I've never seen the 10th digit of a US MCS radio's model number be anything but 4 or 6. If it is a 5 (I'm assuming 5 was typo'd to S) then that would point strongly towards it being a European/Asian radio.

OK, worth a shot I suppose. I will have to track one of those versions down. The most recent MCS RSS I have is version R05.04.00.

Sorry, the 10th digit is in fact a 5. So if the unit is from the European/Asian market, might you have any suggestions?

You'll need Wookie RSS (which is actually a Windows program) or one of the MPT1327 software packages, which I have seen in both DOS and Windows versions.

Try regular DOS MCS RSS first and see where that gets you.

If you really have a PW5 model and nobody flashed it with Skywalker or MP1327 firmware, you should try MCS/MTS2000 RSS AVN6028E or Smartnet Flight Number RSS (R03.01.00).

Run MTSX-Lab or something like this (the Native Codeplug Programmer is eadier to handle).Read the native codeplug with no pack/unpack and write the archive.Look with a text or hexeditor in the saved codeplug for the real model number!

If you have a AN5 model, you need the 2100 Skywalker DOS RSS.Don´t use Wookie on the mobile models, because there are some major errors in this RSS (eg. the front end tuning is blanked out for all bandsplits).
