I am completely lost here. I bought a radio and I am getting an error on the screen FL 05/94. Having used the search function, I checked the head and the chib. they matched as older styles (hln1453 and hln1463 off the top of my head). Nothing that I have tried has worked. So I bought a newer model chib hln1468 and I still get the same error. with either control head, the best I can do when trying to sync it is get to about step 4. I start with the radio in bootstrap mode, start the sync, it restarts twice, then I have to press the buttons to keep it in bootstrap mode or it will fail. It downloads the info to the control head then tries to restart again. If I do nothing, I get the FL05-94 error and sync fails. If I force it into bootstrap mode it fails. I suspect that the software is looking for a normal boot-up here to verify the download was successful, but the control head won't give a normal boot up. Anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated.

Let me ask a dumb question here. Do you have the high current power feed on the rear of the radio connected to the 12 volts and ground? This is the 2 pin connector on the heat sink area of the radio. Have you measured the +12 volts there to make sure you don't have a bad fuse or poor connection? Is the black wire going to the ground or power supply return?

The black wire is going to power supply return. I have measured the voltage and it is a very high quality power supply. I have no problem powering two other xtl5000's on it, nor an xtl2500, 6 gm300's, and a dozen or so x9000's (not at the same time). there is no bad fuse or connection. In fact, I get the same error whether or not I am even connected to the radio.

Re: ERROR FL 05/94 O5 CONTROL HEAD
My best guess at this point is that the control head it somehow defective. I have a replacement on its way out to me. If I can find out what part they found to be defective I will post it here so that others can find it too.

Have you tried to sync the control head to the radio? If the 2 parts, radio and control head were not used together before, they probably will not work until you run the Motorola sync program. This gets the radio and control head talking to each other.
