Toolproofed MTS2000... is there any hope?

Post by K1LNX »

For recovery? I'm getting the dreaded error FAIL 01/93 upon powerup and sadly I do not have a saved codeplug to try and restore it with. Reading this suggests I need a working binary codeplug/s-records etc:

My experience with Moto is limited, so if someone could lend me a hand on how to fix this that would be great....

There is hope, but it's slim. A couple of different avenues can be tried:

1) Conversion to an MT2100 - if you do a search for terms like "mt2100 toolproof" a board member named Andreas details a method to convert the radio to the European MTS2000 equivalent, which will clear the error. It does involve several European LAB/RSS packages with which I'm not familiar with.

2) I've heard there are corresponding LAB versions right up to the current 6.08 RSS, which understand & can correct toolproofing. Personally, I've never seen a version beyond 3.00.02, but don't doubt the existence of later versions.

3) I've been told there are methods to 'revert' the radio's firmware to pre 5.42, which clears the error as it only exists beyond 5.42, and then upgrading back to a more recent version. I don't know how this is accomplished though...I would assume you would need the corresponding "cvn" firmware files and some version of LAB or a modified version of regular RSS which doesn't require the hardware dongle to perform the flashing. It would also not have to care about firmware versions, as they normally do not allow one to flash to an earlier version.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
