Quantar Wireline Control Board Failure

Post by aseybold »

I am trying to trouble shoot a wireline card on a VHF Quantar, the front light says fail OR it flashes between fail and working very rapidly, in the RSS the configuration test shows no wireline card however when I go to the test and service screen the message says that the wireline is OFF. If it is OFF is there a way to turn it on or does it really mean that there is a problem with the card?

Thanks

Look under the hardware configuration for the type of wireline it is supposed to be, and then write it back to the station. I have a feeling it has grown a brain fart, but you can try to recover it.

Did it previously work and then stop or are you trying to put a card into a station that did not have one?

If the latter, you could have a firmware version mismatch.

Several versions back (and several years ago) Motorola changed the way the Quantar firmware works.

In the newer version stations the station control board downloads the operating code into the wireline board at bootup.

Many upgrades were sold for fielded stations. The EPIC station control boards could be upgraded, the wireline boards could not; hence the station upgrade included a new wireline board.

The result is that there are many of the earlier boards available on the used market.

Buyer beware.
