G'Day all,
RE: MCS2000 Type III
Model M01KHN9AN8
DOS RSS Version R02.10.01 (2100 Series Version)*
DOS RSS Version R05.04.00 (MCS2000 Version)**
Motorola CPS version R02.03.00 ***
1) I have been sucessful in programming my MCS200 Series III radio using Motorola 2100 Series RSS Dos Version R02.10.01 on an old laptop which is slowly turning into a paper weight. I have a Netbook, which I am trying to convert to a Radio Programming notebook, but as you all know, newer (faster) chipsets will not read or write to Radio as the processor sending data to quickly to the Com's Port.
Anyway... long story short, I have attempted other versions of RSS and 2 versions of CPS to read the codeplug file. Either I get a "Codeplug To New"** error, or "Error reading from image when attempting to unpack block Radio Wide Unpack failed."***
I guess, I am asking for a solution to either get someone to upgrade the codeplug file, or point me in the correct direction to resolve, and overcome the above.
I have also attempted to contact Motorola for registration and what not, but they have not responded as yet. I can take the radio into our local bloke, but that takes the fun away from it all (for me anyway).
2) Another issue that has annoyed me, is the RSS for 2100 Series* does not seem to fully utulise the full 14 Character (2 line) display - Seems to only use the first 8 spaces. I have tried the settings F4-F2-F5 "Display Configuration" but the maximum field size = 8. Basically I want the channel number to the far right of the screen for example
"CFA IMC 014"
instead of
"CFA IMC 014"
The Channel field size set to 8 Display Column 1 , Display Line 1
The Address field size set to 3 Display Column 12, Display Line 1, but seems not to do anything.
Any help will be most appreciated
Thanks in advance

I doubt a netbook has a real serial port? Rss needs a real serial port and run in real dos

Re: MCS2000 Codeplug read errors
If you are getting a codeplug too new, the device is reading the radio, just unhappy with the version byte. The CPS will complain with radios that have been mod'd in certain ways.rynak wrote:G'Day all,

What is the flashcode?
I'm certain 5.07DOS would probably read it ok.

Re: MCS2000 Codeplug read errors
True, but CPS seems to read radio fine using a USB to Serial adaptor, DOS RSS however will not. it is the software not liking the codeplug file, hence getting the "Error reading from image when attempting to unpack block Radio Wide Unpack failed." or simular error code when reading directly from radio.HLA wrote:I doubt a netbook has a real serial port? Flashcode.... Hmmmm, yes, my radio is having social issues with getting into test mode, have tried several options, like Pressing OPT (button closest to mic jack) 5 times on power up... but no good. I have been into the RSS, can't find flash code (can find Codeplug Spec Number). The Pager Geek wrote:

That radio and cps was never designed to use usb, just get a real cable, rib, and computer with a real serial port. usb adaptors cause more issues than anything
