Mt2000 self test at startup

I have a UHF Mt2000 that I've had for years, and and have programmed it several times with no problems, and always using the same computer and RSS. Something weird happened this time; the radio appeared to take the code plug ok, but now when I power it up it stays stuck on "self test", even after beeping. I can get it into the menu, and from there it allows me to change the zone, but then forces it back to zone 1 regardless of what I selected. At that point, I can go back to menu and change to zone 2, and it seems to work fine until it's powered off again. Any thoughts?
