Site not available tonight for a while

Post by Jim202 »

Not sure what the issue was, but both this site and the backup site were timing out tonight. Now it's working again. All the other sites I go to were working just fine.

Host had some internet connectivity issues (again). Second time in the past month. Given how stable it has been - it sucks it's been a bit off lately.

It appears to be some sort of DoS Attack mostly on WordPress configurations:
We are seeing a new wave of attacks, similar to the ones that were causing issues yesterday. They have restarted and are causing new problems again today, and despite targeting wordpress, affect all customer on our web hosting services. Our admin team is aware of this renewed series of attacks and are already working on trying to restore services to normal. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this causes you and we will post updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Update May 14th 11:15am PDT: We have just pushed out new mod_security rules to help mitigate the effects of this attack. This should mitigate some of the attack traffic we’re seeing. Some of you are noticing 503 errors when logging into wordpress, and we’re investigating that at this time.
For those curious: http://www.dreamhoststatus.com has the details.
