Syntor X9000 w/XCAT?
Another FNG question from an FNG (and I gotta zillion of 'em!) I realize that the xcat hardware/software is aimed towards the Syntor X, that the X9000 is a better deal with its 255 modes, etc. I love the idea, however, of the xcat software and being able to monkey with the settings with my Toughbook instead of my dad's old POS 386 laptop. Is there a way to utilize the xcat program with an X9000 (which I currently own)? I am probably going to just buy a Syntor X, but maybe I won't if someone tells me I can use xcat with my X9000. Wait, who am I kidding? Of course I am going to buy a Syntor X (and a GP380 and a MaxTrac and a Saber III UHF and an Astro Saber, etc etc etc ad infinitum...)!

Re: Syntor X9000 w/XCAT?
...And, I think I just answered my own question with a 23 second long Google search that informs me that "Earlier Syntors (no X) and the Syntor X 9000 do not work with the Xcat." So, that's that!
I'll say it before someone else does.
Duh.
Thanks for your time

There are major differences between the radios your talking about here. There is the Syntor,. Then there is the Syntor X. Now we get to the Syntor X9000. They do not function the same. They do not program the same. But the RF guts are pretty much the same and can be swapped around. The control board is where the real meat, so to say, is in the radio. With the lack of the ability to locate the PROMS for the first 2 models, you either need to go buy the electronic board that is available or go to the X9000 radio.
At least with the X9000, you can go back as many times as you need to change the programming. It just takes a computer running pure DOS and a slow clock speed. They are a fine radio. Have a number of them I use almost every day.
