X-Pand and Compander settings

Post by ronross »

Our county department is using Motorola M1225 and CM300 radios. The entire county system will be moving over to narrowband in June. The county will be replacing the repeater with a brand new Kenwood repeater. I have the software to change our radios over to narrowband.

The software has an option for X-Pand for the M1225s and Compander for CM300. Do I activate these settings when we switch over to narrowband? Since a Kenwood repeater will be used, will the Kenwood be compatible with this Motorola feature?

I am not familiar with the Kenwood equipment but my experiences, and others that I know, is to leave X-pand and companding off. I have not programmed any of the CM equipment but if you have options for emphasis and de-emphasis you want to enable those.
