CDM1250 DTMF Mic Problem

Post by drwyse570 »

I have 2 CDM1250 radios on our medic unit at the firehouse, both with a DTMF mic. One of them works just fine, but the other one does not. The backlights for the keypad illuminate and you can transmit just fine, but the functionality of the keypad does not work at all. Both radios are programmed the same as far as I can tell. Could it be that one has a DTMF decode board where the other does not, or does that even matter?

What radios do you own?: Not enough apparently!

Have you tried swapping microphones? That would tell you if the problem's in the radio or the mic.

After you do the mic swap test, if the same radio won't do DTMF regardless of which mic is on it, then...

If you do your own programming, in the CPS: Radio Configuration --> Basic tab. Down at the bottom there is a drop down for Keypad/Microphone Configuration. For the DTMF keypad to work and the A B C programmable buttons to be accessible in the CPS, you must select Programmable-Menu/Numeric. If Standard Microphone is selected, the keypad is disabled and the mic functions as a normal mic.

Thank you all for reminding me to do the obvious. I just assumed that since it was a brand new mic that I bought from Motorola, it would work. However, swapping the mics revealed to me that it was a bad mic, since a different mic worked just fine on the radio. I took the bad mic to a different radio and it wouldn't work there either. So next time, I will try the obvious before I start to pull my hair out and post a question. Thanks.
