Hi,
I just bought an FPP XTS2500 off ebay and I can't get it out of talkaround mode. All memories are in talkaround. The entire radio is in talkaround.
The menu options are: ZONE-FPP-CHAN then MUTE-CLCK-BATT noting else on the screen. I can't get DIR which is what would all me to select between direct and repeater modes. It is always in direct mode.
All the buttons appear assigned to something other than talkaround toggle. As such I can't get it to work with any repeaters. The seller will take it back if I can't get it to work, but I like the radio and I'd really like to keep it.
Any help is appreciated.
thx,
josh

Might be that the "Direct Frequency" box is checked in the General tab of the Conventional Configuration screen. The only way to tell for sure what is really going on would be to read it with the software so you can access all the features of the radio.
Re: can't get XTS2500 out of talkaround
Just reprogram it with a DIR key.
Re: can't get XTS2500 out of talkaround
Do you know if I can program a 4 meg radio with the latest version of CPS? Does it require some type of flash upgrade to work with the newest CPS? This radio was most recently programmed with 9.00.02 and I have access to CPS 18.xx.xx.

You have not told us just what frequencies are programmed into the radio. If you do not have different frequencies in the TX and RX locations, the radio will only do what it is told.
I believe the software will not allow a DIR button unless you have repeater frequencies already in the radio for that channel. Then it will allow the RX frequency to be used as a talk around (DIR) selection if you check the box. This will be allowed on a channel by channel basis.

I understand what you are saying, but the radio is programmed just like my Yaesu radio on ham radio repeaters with different input and output frequencies.

Is there a slide switch under the normal channels selector that has A, B, and C positions? Try moving this to another position.

Re: can't get XTS2500 out of talkaround
When the unit is in the DIRECT mode it will TX the same freq AND PL/DPL (or CSQ) as in the RX side. The radio needs to have the DIR key programmed back onto it (use R19.xx all day with no issues unless you have FPP and trunking) and that will correct the issue. The same is true for simplex channel, if the TX side has a PL and the RX is CSQ the radio WILL go to DIRECT mode and TX without a PL.screa34 wrote:I understand what you are saying, but the radio is programmed just like my Yaesu radio on ham radio repeaters with different input and output frequencies.
This is not a problem with the radio, just the programming.
Re: can't get XTS2500 out of talkaround
ok, thanks for everyone's response. I'll reprogram the radio. If anything goes bad I'll give details, otherwise please assume all went well.
Thank you,
