Saber - extract tuning data out of radio?????

This forum is for discussions regarding all aspects of Motorola radio programming, including hardware, computers, installation and use of RSS/CPS, firmware upgrades, and troubleshooting. There are subforums for discussions of codeplugs, and also for software/firmware release notes and issues.

Saber - extract tuning data out of radio?????

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have a European Saber III which is called an MX3000. It is identical to a Saber but the RSS might be slightly different to take into account European 5 Tone stuff.

The radio has previously been programmed and aligned ( I guess). I just want to add a few new frequencies.

When I write the codeplug to the radio, I get the message " Do You Want To Extract Tuning Data Out of Radio (Yes/No)"

I think I should select Yes....is this correct???

If I select Yes, I think I will be using the actual alignment values which are already inside the radio and presumably are correct??

If I select No, I presume I will be using default tuning values and the radio will need to be realigned????

If I have read the codeplug from the radio, would that codeplug not already contain the radios tuning values, so you don't need to extract then again??? So you could answer No???

If you are using a codeplug from another radio, it will contain the tuning values from that other radio, so if you answered "No" you would upload the wrong tuning values???

I think I'm getting confused as I read one comment which said to always answer "No". I think "No" would work if you are using a codeplug from the same radio and just amending it so there is no need to reapply the tuning values as they are already correct. If you answered "No" on a codeplug borrowed from another radio, then you would be using the wrong tuning values???

Somebody please help!!!

That feature is useful for saving a codeplug with tuning data, in case the radio gets corrupted during a future programming session. You can use it to fully restore the radio without needing to retune everything.

For "regular" programming, you don't need to extract.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

I think the wording of the RSS message is confusing.

It should say "Do you want to use the tuning values which are already in the radio?"

The answer is generally always YES.

If you are using a codeplug from another radio and answer NO, you will upload the tuning values of the other radio and will need to realign your radio.

If you initially read the radio, then the codeplug will have the tuning values which are already in the radio - ie the codeplug tuning values and the radio tuning values are identical so it does not matter whether you answer YES or NO.

BUT , if you want to adjust the squelch, you must first read the codeplug from the radio, adjust the SQ in service mode and then answer NO...otherwise the new SQ value will not be saved. If you answer YES, you will just end up with the original SQ value!!!

Maybe the Saber RSS is slightly different from the Euro MX3000 RSS?
