Fully muting MCS2000 audio?

Post by spectrumguru »

Apparently the speaker audio on the MCS2000 does not fully mute, when the volume knob is turned completely counter clockwise. It's annoyingly loud enough in my small office, that I constantly find myself turning the MCS2000 off, so that I can hear other radios. I've heard that this was done by Motorola as a safety feature for public service??? My Maxtrac use to do the same thing, until I stumbled across an audio mod. I simply jumped a component on the backside of the faceplate, and now it mutes 100%.

My question..... Short of putting a level control inline between the MCS2000 and the speaker, is there another way / mod that I could administer, to completely mute the audio?

TIA.

Its been a long time since I programmed one, but look under the radio wide or audio options sections and see if there is a "min volume" field. Usually its set for 20, but 0 would effectively mute any audio.

Hello PJ and thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my question. You would think that the "min volume" is something that could be adjusted via the CPS, but it's not. Using the latest version of CPS, I've double and triple checked. There is simply no adjustment for this. I remember someone else complaining about this same issue..... just wasn't sure if there was a work around.

Labtool RSS has the option under F9) Labtool Configuration Menu, F2) Labtool Configuration 1, F2) Genral Hardware Configuration, F9) More Options and then "Minimum Volume."

I'm sure that you don't want to play with lab due to Tool-Proofing and what-not, but the option is in the software, just not available to the end-user/programmer.

Thank you for that detailed information. I figured that this option had to be adjustable somewhere. I'm handy enough using the CPS, but have never used the Labtool. Not sure exactly how "Tool-Proofing" works, so I will start researching. Sounds like I could brick the radio if not careful.

Thanks again.

You can use Micedit.exe to set the min.volume to zero.
Micedit is a part of the Wookie Mobius 2100 series CPS.
